Tianmen Cave: A Natural Miracle

Tianmen Cave, a natural mountain pass, is the centerpiece of Tianmen Mountain. Its unique shape has earned it a special place in local folklore, where it is believed to be a gateway to the heavens. The cave has become a spiritual symbol for the locals. However, it is important to note that Tianmen Cave is not open year-round. During the winter, due to snow and ice, the cave and the winding mountain road leading to it (a 99-turn serpentine road) are temporarily closed.

Cable Cars and Glass Walkways: Soar Above the Clouds

The park’s main cable car starts at Guanliping in the Yongding District and ascends all the way to the top of Tianmen Mountain, offering stunning panoramic views. From the cable car, you will have a chance to see the “Sky Road,” a winding path that snakes through the cliffs, providing a surreal experience. For the brave-hearted, the park also offers glass walkways suspended over the cliffs, allowing you to walk on air. These glass walkways, built on the sheer faces of the mountain, provide a heart-pounding experience as you walk over a vast abyss below, making you feel as if you’re walking on clouds.

Scenic Routes and Attractions

Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park is divided into several areas, including the Tianmen Cave, Middle Line, East Line, and West Line. Visitors can choose different routes based on their preferences and physical condition. The Middle Line’s main attraction is the Tianmen Mountain Temple, which is near the “Child-Wishing Cave,” where locals believe the Goddess of Mercy grants wishes for children. The West Line features a 60-meter-long glass walkway built on the cliffs, providing a thrilling experience with a view of the deep valley below. Additionally, the East Line and Panlong Cliff also offer their own glass walkways for visitors to enjoy.

The park does not offer accommodations, so it is recommended to complete the visit in one day. For refreshments, there is the “Cherry Bay Restaurant” near Tianmen Mountain Temple, where visitors can enjoy snacks and quick meals.

Cultural Performances: A Magical Experience

At the Tianmen Canyon Grand Theatre near the cable car station, you can enjoy a live performance, the magical musical drama The Fox Spirit of Tianmen. This performance is based on the mythological tale Liu Hai Cuts Wood, which tells a moving love story between a human and a fox spirit. The show features breathtaking special effects, including a giant moon, the transformation of the fox spirit, snowstorms, flying bridges, and more, all of which add to the spectacular experience.

• Parking: Tianmen Mountain Parking Lot offers free parking for the first 30 minutes. After that, it charges 10 RMB for every 12 hours, with a maximum of 20 RMB for 24 hours.
• Luggage Storage: Large luggage is stored for 10 RMB, and regular luggage for 5 RMB. Certain items, such as valuables, flammable materials, and animals, are prohibited for storage.
• Guided Tours: The park offers professional guided tours for 200 RMB per tour (covering the entire Tianmen Mountain route).
• Restrooms and Amenities: Restrooms are available throughout the park at key locations such as the cable car stations and Tianmen Cave Square. There are also vending machines and small shops selling snacks and essentials.
