Travel Itinerary
You will be greeted by your knowledgeable tour guide and driver outside the airport or train station. They will take you directly to your hotel in Xiamen. You can rest at the hotel or explore on your own. Ask your private guide for suggestions.
Meals included: None
Your trip to Xiamen will start with a visit to Nanputuo Temple, which was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It is famous for its collection of Buddhist artifacts, such as the Burmese Jade Buddha Statue and some important Buddhist scriptures. Climbing Wulao Peak, you can have a bird’s eye view of Xiamen University and Xiamen Port.
Have seafood lunch near Gulangyu Island. Then head to Gulangyu Island. On the way, visit Hulishan Fort, which has an architectural style mainly from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and was built in 1891. Hulishan Fort is famous for having the two largest and smallest cannons in the world. There are many ancient military buildings and weapons in the fort, such as forts, barracks, castles, trenches, double-edged swords, muskets, etc.
Take a 10-minute ferry ride to the island. Take a leisurely stroll on Gulangyu Island and admire the old consulates, churches, and other European-style buildings built by colonists in the early 20th century. Browse boutiques and pick up interesting souvenirs such as hand-painted maps or handicrafts. You will visit two attractions on the island: Riguangyan Park and Shuzhuang Garden, and take an electric car.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
After breakfast in Xiamen, drive to Tianluokeng Earth Building in Nanjing County, about three hours away. Enjoy lunch in Tianluokeng.
Located in Shangban Village, Shuyang Town, Tianluokeng Earth Building mainly consists of four circular and one rectangular earth buildings. It is currently one of the most magnificent and best-preserved castles of the Hakka people. The village is also listed as a “Famous Historical and Cultural Village in China” for its unique culture and architecture.
Then head west to Tasha Village, a unique Hakka village in the valley of Nanjing County. The village was built by the Zhang family in 1426 during the Ming Dynasty, and many famous overseas Chinese can trace their history to this village. It is listed as one of the 15 most beautiful villages in China.
The Hakka people come from the Central Plains of China, the cradle of Chinese civilization. They value family unity, so the Hakka people build large earth buildings for the whole family to live together. They also value the Eight Trigrams, which is the most sacred cultural symbol in ancient China, so the Hakka people build earth buildings based on the complex Eight Trigrams, which guides them in choosing where to build earth buildings and many other aspects. The Eight Trigrams also influence all Chinese people today in terms of policy, culture, architecture, philosophy, etc.
After visiting the earth building complex, you will return to Xiamen to prepare for the next trip to Wuyi Mountain.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Xiamen Railway Station. It takes about 3 hours to get to Wuyi Mountain City by high-speed rail. It takes about 20 minutes to drive from Wuyi Mountain North Station to Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area. Ticket price is included. Enjoy lunch in Wuyi Mountain.
The scenery around Wuyi Mountain is amazing and spectacular. On the first day in Wuyi Mountain, you will visit Tianyou Peak and learn about Taoist culture. Wuyi Mountain is an important Taoist resort. Taoism is a Chinese religion that has influenced China for more than 1,800 years.
Wuyi Mountain is also the home of Dahongpao, one of the top ten famous teas in China. This high-quality oolong tea enjoys a high reputation, so many tourists to Wuyi Mountain will buy some.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
After breakfast, take a boat tour of Jiuqu River and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Jiuqu River, with towering mountains, lush vegetation, blue sky and clear stream water. The Danxia landform by the river is a highlight of Wuyi Mountain. There are many inscriptions on Wuyi Mountain because many painters and poets in history have visited Wuyi Mountain for inspiration.
Some hanging coffins with a history of more than 3,000 years can be seen. The Wuyi Mountain hanging coffins are the oldest hanging coffins in China. How they were hung on the cliffs is still a mystery. The hanging coffins are representative of ancient Fujian culture.
There are Song Street and Wuyi Palace near the end of Jiuqu River.
After lunch, you will go to Xiamei Ancient Village to experience the style of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Most of the buildings are well preserved, featuring brick carvings, wood carvings and stone carvings, and the village is part of the Wuyi World Cultural Heritage. You will take a walk there.
Your guide will confirm your return trip and escort you to the airport on time. The guide will accompany you to the correct check-in counter and make sure everything goes well before saying goodbye to you.
