Located in Yi County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, the ancient village of Xidi—established during the Huangyou era of the Northern Song Dynasty—serves as a quintessential example of Huizhou-style architectural art and is renowned as a "museum of Ming and Qing dynasty residential architecture." In 2000, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List alongside the nearby village of Hongcun, and in 2024, it was recognized by UN Tourism as one of the "Best Tourism Villages." Surrounded by mountains on all sides with two streams flowing through it, the village features a unique "ship-shaped" layout. It preserves a wealth of exquisite, grand residences once owned by Huizhou merchants during the Ming and Qing dynasties, offering an atmosphere that is even more tranquil and steeped in the profound, lived-in history of the region than that of Hongcun.
