"Walking the Bund at twilight with a private guide was the absolute highlight of our Shanghai trip. Our guide knew every building's story — which one was bankrolled by the Sassoon fortune, which Art Deco doorway hid revolutionaries, where the secret jazz sessions happened. Then she took us to this tiny rooftop bar — same panoramic view as the famous bars, but we were the only people there. The Peace Hotel jazz band (average age 82!) was the perfect ending."
