Experience China's Ancient Capitals: Beijing and Xi'an

Embark on an unforgettable journey through China’s ancient capitals, Beijing and Xi’an, each offering a unique blend of history and modernity.

Start in Beijing, the political heart of China for centuries. Witness the brilliance behind iconic landmarks such as the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, and the awe-inspiring Great Wall. For a glimpse into authentic local life, stroll through the hutongs—Beijing’s historic neighborhoods—that provide a fascinating contrast to the city’s grandeur.

Next, board a high-speed bullet train to Xi’an, enjoying scenic landscapes along the way. Unlike Beijing’s formality, Xi’an offers a vibrant, relaxed atmosphere, reflecting its legacy as the starting point of the Silk Road. Stand in awe before the legendary Terracotta Army, marveling at the craftsmanship of each statue. Savor Xi’an’s renowned cuisine in the bustling Muslim Quarter, where you can test your chopstick skills and find unique souvenirs.

This package includes five nights in top-rated four- or five-star hotels, daily breakfast, English-speaking local guides, all transfers, and options to customize your experience. It’s the ideal introduction to China for first-time travelers, brought to you by Hello China Trip.

Travel Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) or Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), your dedicated tour guide will greet you outside the baggage claim area. During the transfer to your pre-booked four or five-star hotel in the city center, your guide will share insights about Beijing’s rich history and key landmarks. The remainder of the day is yours to explore this fascinating city at your own pace.

Meals included: None

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from the hotel to begin a day of exploring Beijing. Start with a visit to Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world. From there, cross over to the Forbidden City, an iconic cultural landmark and former residence of Chinese emperors for over five centuries.

Next, head to the Summer Palace to admire its stunning gardens and envision the luxurious lifestyle of imperial royalty who once relaxed in this beautiful summer retreat. The day concludes with a stop at the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube, the impressive stadium and pool built for the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, offering a striking contrast to the city’s ancient history. Return to your hotel in the evening.

Meals included: Breakfast

Note: The itinerary may be adjusted if the Forbidden City is closed on Mondays.

Start your day with an exciting visit to the Mutianyu Great Wall, a quieter section of China’s iconic 1,400-year-old landmark, located about 70 kilometers from Beijing. Enjoy a comfortable round-trip cable car ride over scenic landscapes, then walk along the wall to admire the Ming dynasty guard towers and breathtaking views.

In the afternoon, return to the city and explore the Confucius Temple and Imperial College Museum. Wander through the nearby hutongs, discovering local life as you browse charming shops, sip a coffee, and experience an authentic slice of Beijing’s vibrant community.

Meals included: Breakfast

Begin your day with a visit to the impressive Temple of Heaven, where Ming and Qing dynasty emperors held ceremonies to pray for bountiful harvests and blessings for the nation.

Afterward, head to Beijing West Railway Station, where your guide will assist with check-in for your high-speed train journey to Xi’an. During the five-hour trip, traveling at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour, relax and enjoy the diverse landscapes passing by.

Upon arrival at Xi’an North Station, your local guide will greet you and accompany you to your centrally located four- or five-star hotel.

Meals included: Breakfast

Today’s main highlight is the world-famous Terracotta Army, recognized as the largest underground military complex. Explore this incredible archaeological site, home to thousands of unique, life-sized figures.

Afterward, return to the city and visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of Xi’an’s iconic Buddhist landmarks. If you’re up for it, you may have the opportunity to climb to the top of the pagoda for a panoramic view of Xi’an’s 1,400-year-old history, followed by a peaceful walk through the surrounding temple and gardens.

Next, visit the serene Great Mosque, located in the heart of Xi’an’s old district. Built in the mid-7th century, it is the oldest and largest mosque in China. Then, explore the bustling Muslim Quarter, where you can mix with locals and sample a variety of authentic food and buy unique travel souvenirs.

Finally, visit the Bell Tower and Drum Tower Square, two of the city’s most famous landmarks. After a full day of exploration, return to your hotel to relax or choose to enjoy a dinner, a show, or both for a night of entertainment.

Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast and hotel check-out, your guide will take you to Xi’an’s ancient City Wall, the largest and best-preserved city wall of its kind in China. Stretching nearly 14 kilometers, the wall once enclosed the former capital city. You’ll have some free time to explore on foot or by bicycle, taking in the historic surroundings.

Following your visit, you’ll be driven to Xi’an Xianyang International Airport for your flight back home or to your next destination in China.

Meals included: Breakfast

Note: For small group tour participants, a transfer service to the airport can be arranged upon request.
