Wonders of Ancient China - The Silk Road
This tour will leave you with great memories and allow you to experience the wonders and vast landscapes of ancient China in the far reaches of the legendary Silk Road. Cross the Gobi Desert like an ancient traveler, visit oases, listen to legends of the warring factions that prompted the construction of battlements, and create your own photo opportunities. In contrast, admire art artifacts, murals, carvings, and museums that show what life was like at the time.
Travel Itinerary
Your experienced guide will warmly greet you at the train station or airport baggage claim, and then transfer you to your booked hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Along the way, your guide will explain the city background and major historical attractions. The rest of the day is at your own leisure.

After breakfast, your guide will take you on a day of exploration of Dunhuang, an oasis on the Silk Road. Drive to the Mogao Grottoes, relax in the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle, and listen to your professional guide tell the legends behind the mysterious thousands of Buddhist caves. Watch a documentary to learn about the history of the grottoes, and then visit these caves, which preserve the finest examples of Buddhist art from a thousand years ago. Continue to Mingsha Mountain. Ride a camel up the mountain and listen to the beautiful melody emitted by the sand dunes. The panoramic view of the layers of sand dunes inspires the wonder and mystery of the desert and Crescent Moon Lake, an oasis below, where your guide will unveil its mysteries and share conservation efforts.
Enjoy a comfortable ride back to your hotel in Dunhuang.

Today, you will be enchanted by the legendary and amazing Gobi Desert on the way to Jiayuguan, which takes about 4 hours by car. Upon arrival, admire the spectacular Jiayuguan Gate and be told vivid stories by your local guide. Hike along the Hanging Wall Great Wall, which will take you back to the Warring States period and feel the importance of this defense system. Enter the world’s largest underground art gallery – Wei and Jin Tomb Murals – and admire the amazing brick murals that depict life, culture, farming, hunting, banquets and costumes from 220 to 419 AD. Visit the Jiayuguan Museum to learn more about the culture of the area from the vast collection of national treasures on display.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your booked Jiayuguan hotel.

- This is a small group tour with a fixed itinerary and guaranteed departures.
You will travel with other people (maximum of 12). - Smart casual dress and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
- The tour guide may adjust the itinerary due to closure of the museums each Monday.
- At the conclusion of the tour, a transfer from your hotel to Hongqiao or Pudong Airport in Shanghai is available upon request at a surcharge.
- Stays at entering and exiting cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei) can be extended.
