A highland freshwater lake on the Sichuan–Yunnan border, known for Grass Sea wetland, Bright Sea open water, and Mosuo and Pumi culture.

Lugu Lake is a freshwater highland lake on the border of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, between Yanyuan County in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and Ninglang Yi Autonomous County in Lijiang City. It sits at 2,690 meters and covers 48.45 square kilometers. On the southeastern side, the vegetation-rich wetland area is known as Grass Sea (Cao Hai), while the expansive open-water section is called Bright Sea (Liang Hai). The lake’s water is exceptionally clear and meets China’s Grade I water quality standard, though the lake also faces significant environmental challenges. The surrounding shores are home to Pumi and Mosuo ethnic groups, and the Mosuo traditional "walking marriage" (zouhun) custom is a major tourism interest. Lugu Lake is designated as a provincial-level scenic area by both Sichuan and Yunnan and is recognized as a National Key Scenic Area of China.
