The tour itself was fantastically planned, and our guide was one of the best I’ve ever had, with so much fascinating insight into local minority traditions. I’m only giving 4 stars because we traveled during the wet season and had unseasonably heavy rain that forced us to cancel two outdoor village visits, which was totally out of the tour team’s control.

I booked this tour specifically to get an authentic look at Yunnan’s diverse minority cultures instead of just checking off crowded tourist landmarks, and it exceeded every single one of my expectations. We stayed in cozy family-run guesthouses in Lijiang’s Old Town, joined a traditional harvest feast with Yi villagers, and even got to try making traditional Dongba paper with a third-generation artisan. The itinerary included comfortable stops in Kunming and Xi’an as planned, and never felt overpacked even over 8 days. I’d recommend this tour to any traveler who wants to connect with local culture instead of just scratching the surface of China.

The flexible daily departure option made it so easy to fit this tour around our existing travel schedule in China. We were able to customize the itinerary to spend extra time exploring Lijiang’s Naxi culture, which made the whole trip feel perfectly tailored to our interests.

Lynn from HelloChinaTrip customized this 8-day itinerary perfectly for my interest in Naxi textile art, accommodating every special request I had. Our private local guide was incredibly knowledgeable about each minority group’s history and traditions, and got us access to small family villages that aren’t open to mass tour groups. Every day felt relaxed and personal, never rushed like the group tours I’ve taken in the past.
