This 10-day adventure winds through every iconic corner of Yunnan, starting in Kunming, the province's mild, flower-filled capital. We journey first to capture the breathtaking patchwork hues of Dongchuan Red Land, then travel by bullet train to the ancient lakeside city of Dali to soak up Bai ethnic culture. From Dali, we climb north through dramatic mountain gorges to the misty highland wonderland of Shangri-La, before ending our trip in the atmospheric cobblestone lanes of Lijiang at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Blending jaw-dropping natural scenery with rich, diverse cultural experiences, this route showcases the very best of Yunnan without rushed schedules.

🌟 Day 1: Kunming
After arriving in Kunming, you’ll be escorted to your hotel to settle in after your travels. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the local neighborhood or rest up for your 10-day Yunnan adventure.

🌟 Day 2: Kunming → Dongchuan Red Land
We set out early today for the colorful Dongchuan Red Land region, starting with a stop at scenic Music Hollow (Yuepuao) near Flower Stone Village, where rolling hills of multi-colored crops stretch to the horizon. We’ll then head to Wafang Liangzi to capture the magical golden sunset glow painting the red terraces, before finishing at Luoxianggou Valley for more golden-hour photography opportunities.

🌟 Day 3: Dongchuan Red Land → Kunming
Wake up before dawn today to catch the soft, dreamy sunrise over the red terraces at Damakan, where the first light of day turns the landscape into a patchwork of crimson, gold, and emerald green. After sunrise, we wander through the sweeping rolling red fields of Jinxiuyuan to take in panoramic views before driving back to Kunming for the night.

🌟 Day 4: Kunming → Stone Forest → Dali
We start the day with a leisurely stroll around Kunming’s iconic Green Lake, a tranquil urban park dotted with willow trees that draws migratory black-headed gulls each winter. Next, we visit the otherworldly Stone Forest, where thousands of towering limestone karst spires create a fairy-tale like landscape. After exploring, we board a comfortable second-class bullet train to Dali, where you’ll have time after check-in to wander the ancient Dali city walls, explore bohemian Foreigners’ Street, and roam the charming lanes of Dali Old Town.

Today is all about immersing in traditional Bai ethnic culture. We head first to the ancient town of Xizhou to experience the iconic Bai three-course tea ceremony, a centuries-old ritual that uses sweet, bitter, and neutral teas to reflect the journey of life. Next, we visit Zhoucheng, the birthplace of Bai tie-dye, for a tour of a local family-run tie-dye workshop where you can learn about this time-honored craft. We end the day with a leisurely visit to stunning Erhai Lake, taking in views of clear blue water ringed by distant mountains.

🌟 Day 6: Dali → Tiger Leaping Gorge → Shangri-La
We leave Dali today and head north toward Shangri-La’s highlands, stopping first to admire the dramatic First Bend of the Yangtze River, where the river cuts a sweeping turn through towering mountain cliffs. Next, we visit world-famous Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest canyons on Earth, where the rushing Jinsha River carves through sheer rock faces for a truly awe-inspiring view. Once we arrive in Shangri-La, we stroll through the historic Dukezong Ancient Town, then climb Guishan Hill to see the massive Grand Prayer Wheel, one of the largest functioning prayer wheels in the world.

🌟 Day 7: Explore Shangri-La
We dive deep into Tibetan Buddhist culture today with a visit to the magnificent Songzanlin Monastery, a sprawling 17th-century hillside complex often called the "Little Potala Palace" for its striking, iconic architecture. Next, we visit the scenic Napahai Lake wetland reserve, where migratory birds gather and you’ll get unobstructed views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. We end the day with a warm, intimate visit to a local Tibetan family, where you can learn about traditional highland life and experience authentic local hospitality.

🌟 Day 8: Shangri-La → Lijiang
We leave Shangri-La’s highlands and travel south to Lijiang, the ancient Naxi town nestled at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Once we arrive, we wander the winding cobblestone lanes of UNESCO-listed Lijiang Old Town, where wooden courtyard homes line gurgling ancient canals. Next, we visit serene Black Dragon Pool Park, where you can capture postcard-perfect views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain reflected in the park’s clear green waters. We finish with a stop at the Dongba Culture Museum to learn about the Naxi people’s unique ancient written language and centuries-old traditions.

🌟 Day 9: Explore Lijiang & Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Today we fully explore the iconic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area. We start at the open, sweeping grasslands of Ganhaizi Meadow, with panoramic views of the snow-capped mountain range. Next, we visit stunning Blue Moon Valley (also called Baishui River), where glacial meltwater glows a brilliant turquoise blue from mineral deposits. After that, we take a chairlift up to either Glacier Park or Spruce Meadow (your choice) for up-close views of the mountain’s ancient glaciers and alpine scenery. We end the day with the world-famous open-air Impression Lijiang show, a large-scale performance highlighting Naxi culture set against the natural backdrop of the mountain.
