I came for the Avatar peaks, but ended up falling in love with every city on the itinerary. From the Forbidden City in Beijing to the ancient Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, every stop felt special and well-planned.

Luoyang's Longmen Grottoes were the unexpected highlight of this entire trip.

This is an absolutely wonderful tour that checks every bucket list box, but we visited during the October national holiday week, so all major sites were much more wonderful than we expected. If you can go outside of peak holiday seasons, you’ll have an incredible time.

My consultant Lynn from HelloChinaTrip helped me adjust a few small details of my itinerary before departure, and everything went off without a hitch. Standing in front of the Zhangjiajie peaks that inspired Avatar felt like stepping right into the movie screen. I loved getting to experience both the big iconic sites and small local moments, like eating hand-pulled noodles with a local family in Xi'an. I’ve wanted to visit the Avatar mountains ever since I saw the movie as a kid, and this tour delivered every bit of the magic I hoped for. We got to walk through the quartz peaks, take the glass skywalk, and even had time to stop for local street food in Zhangjiajie after our hike. Every city stop felt immersive: I got to try soup dumplings in Shanghai, watch a kung fu show in Beijing, and stand right next to the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an that I’d only seen in textbooks. This really was the authentic China experience I was chasing, and I can’t recommend it enough.

As someone who loves both nature and history, this tour was tailor-made for me. I got my fill of ancient Chinese history in Xi'an and Beijing, then got to hike the otherworldly peaks of Zhangjiajie that inspired my favorite movie. The pace wasn't too rushed, we had plenty of time to explore each spot and soak up the local culture. I would recommend this to any traveler looking for an unforgettable adventure in China.
