My sister and I booked this for our spring break trip to China, and it was easily the best thing we did the whole vacation. The science class was really informative and never boring—our instructor answered all our questions about panda conservation and how the base cares for these animals. After class, we got our keeper uniforms and headed backstage to clean enclosures, cut bamboo, and feed a 3-year-old female panda named Hua Hua. The exclusive VIP access meant no random crowds around us, so we got tons of clear photos without strangers in the background. At the end, getting the official volunteer certificate felt like such a nice reward for helping with daily base work. I can’t recommend this enough to anyone who loves animals more than just generic sightseeing.

I’ve wanted to work with pandas my whole life, so this experience checked a huge box off my bucket list. The behind-the-scenes VIP access to restricted areas was so cool—we got to see young panda cubs that most tourists never get close to. The panda science documentary class taught me so much about conservation efforts I never knew before. The only downside is it’s a 1.5-hour drive from central Chengdu, which made the day feel a little rushed. Still, every second interacting with the pandas was worth it.

HelloChinaTrip organized this experience flawlessly, I didn’t have to worry about a thing the whole day. I loved how hands-on it was—cleaning the panda enclosure was way more fun than I expected, and standing right next to a panda while it ate the bamboo I prepped was incredible. The official volunteer certificate is such a thoughtful souvenir to take home and show off to friends.

As a lifelong panda lover, this one-day experience exceeded all my expectations. Cleaning the enclosure and prepping bamboo gave me a real sense of what daily keeper work is actually like, not just a tourist photo op. My favorite part was getting to feed a giant panda up close—they have such big, soft paws it was crazy to see up close. I left with amazing photos, my official certificate, and a whole new appreciation for giant panda conservation work.

I brought my 10-year-old animal-obsessed kid on this experience at Ya'an Bifengxia last winter. We got to cut and prep fresh bamboo together, then make fluffy wowo tou panda buns for the cubs. My kid still brags about his official International Volunteer Certificate, which is now hanging front and center in his bedroom. It’s the perfect family activity for anyone visiting Chengdu.
