As a family with two teen kids, we wanted a trip that wasn’t too rushed and let everyone do the activities they cared about, and this custom tour delivered perfectly. The kids loved camel trekking and sand sledding, while my partner and I got to spend time exploring ancient Silk Road ruins nearby. All accommodations were clean and comfortable, and our driver was extremely safe on the desert backroads. This is hands down the best family adventure we’ve ever taken.

I’ve been on several group desert tours before, and this private tailor-made option was such a step up in every way. We got to set our own pace, stop for photos whenever we wanted, and avoid all the big crowds at the main tourist spots. The Gobi’s rugged landscapes are even more breathtaking than they look in photos, and this tour let us experience them perfectly.

If you’re looking to get off the beaten path in China and see something totally different from the usual eastern tourist spots, this tour is for you. The all-inclusive pricing covered everything from meals to park permits to activities, so there were no hidden surprises. I left with hundreds of incredible photos and memories that will last a lifetime.

The tour itself was perfectly organized and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the Gobi’s history and ecosystems, but we had unexpected sandstorms three days into our trip that blocked most of the views we were hoping to see. If you book, make sure to check seasonal weather forecasts before locking in your travel dates.

Having a private tour meant we could change our itinerary last minute when we wanted to stay longer at a stunning red cliff overlook.

I worked with consultant Lynn to customize this trip around my love of stargazing and desert wildlife photography, and she nailed every single request. Our private jeep was comfortable, our overnight camp under the stars was cozy and well-organized, and we got early access to a hidden canyon that left me speechless. The food was far better than I expected for a desert tour, with lots of delicious local Xinjiang specialties. I can’t recommend this tailor-made experience enough for anyone who hates crowded group trips.

Our guide knew all the hidden viewpoints that none of the big group tours visit. The all-inclusive pricing meant we never had to stress about unexpected extra fees anywhere along the route. I’d book this custom experience again in a heartbeat.
