I went on this tour solo as a female traveler and felt completely safe and welcomed the entire time. The indigenous villagers were so kind, letting me try their traditional handcrafts and share meals with their families. I learned more about Chinese ethnic minority culture in these 7 days than I did in a year of reading travel books. If you’re looking for a real, unfiltered look at rural Chinese culture, this is the tour for you.

Coming from Singapore, I’ve visited many parts of China but had never been to Guizhou before this tour. The mix of stunning mountain scenery and deep cultural immersion made this the best holiday my wife and I have taken in the last decade. We loved learning about the different weaving and silver craft traditions that each tribe preserves, and getting to buy handcrafted goods directly from the artisans. We’re already telling all our friends to book this tour when they plan their next trip to China.

I was worried the tour would be too touristy, but I was pleasantly surprised by how authentic everything felt. We didn’t go to any fake cultural villages, everything we saw was the real daily life of the mountain tribes. It’s a trip I’ll be thinking about for years.

The cultural experiences with local tribes were incredibly authentic and I loved getting to try homemade rice wine and traditional weaving. We visited during early wonderful season, so a few of our mountain hikes were more slippery and muddy than expected, which cut our time at one viewpoint short. I’d still absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a deep dive into Guizhou’s unique culture, just book outside the wet season if you can.
