🌟 Day 4: Kaili → Zhenyuan

Start your morning wandering the vibrant, untouristed backstreet markets of Kaili, browsing handcrafted goods and fresh local produce alongside local shoppers. Next, we head to Wenxiang Village, where master artisans will teach you the intricate art of traditional Miao embroidery, and you’ll create your own small embroidered piece to take home. After that, we stop at Shuangjing Village to watch local artisans practice the ancient art of traditional paper-cutting, before moving on to explore the sprawling Qinglong (Black Dragon) Cave, an ancient cave complex that houses a one-of-a-kind shared Taoist-Buddhist temple. 🌟 Day 5: Zhenyuan → Leishan

Today we take time to fully explore Zhenyuan’s charms, starting with a deeper visit to the iconic Black Dragon Cave temple complex, followed by a leisurely stroll through the winding, well-preserved streets of Zhenyuan Ancient Town, soaking up the quiet, timeless riverside atmosphere. After exploring the town, we travel into the mountainous Leishan region, stopping first at Datang Village to learn about the unique customs and daily life of the Short Skirt Miao people. Next, we visit Langde Village, home of the Long Skirt Miao, where you can watch local women showcase their stunning, intricately embroidered traditional skirts. 🍽️ Included: Breakfast

🌟 Day 6: Leishan → Guiyang

Wake up to fresh mountain air today for an active scenic adventure: a gentle 2.5-hour hike through the rolling, lush terraced rice paddies of Baiyan Village, where you’ll learn about the traditional farming techniques that have sustained these mountain communities for hundreds of years. After the hike, we visit the beautiful cascading Xiangshuiyan Waterfalls to take in the views and cool off. Next, we stop at Gejia Village to watch artisans demonstrate the ancient craft of traditional batik dyeing, before wrapping up our day’s activities at a historic traditional mill house, where you’ll learn how locals mill grain and craft hand-pressed incense by traditional methods. We then travel back to Guiyang for your final night. 🍽️ Included: Breakfast

🌟 Day 7: Departure from Guiyang

After breakfast this morning, your immersive Guizhou mountain tribe adventure comes to an end. The rolling mountain views and warm hospitality of the Guizhou mountain tribes exceeded every expectation I had. The route from Guiyang to Kaili was perfectly paced, so we never felt rushed between stops.

The quiet mountain village life and fresh clean air was the perfect break from the busy big cities I visited on the first part of my China trip. Every moment of this tour felt special, and I will be recommending it to all of my travel-loving friends.

We traveled during a Chinese national holiday week, so popular viewpoint overlooks in the tribal villages were much more wonderful than anticipated. The natural scenery and immersive cultural encounters were still incredible, and all itinerary logistics were perfectly handled.

This 7-day Guizhou mountain tribe tour was the most memorable cultural adventure I have experienced in all of China.

Our consultant Ethan from HelloChinaTrip adjusted a small part of our itinerary when we mentioned we wanted extra time for a light hike outside Kaili, which we really appreciated. We got to watch traditional Miao silver-smithing demonstrations, stay with a warm local family, and hike through misty mountain valleys that felt totally untouched by mass tourism. Every day brought a new surprise, and the local home-cooked food was far better than I expected for a group tour. I can’t wait to return to Guizhou someday soon.

The dramatic karst mountain landscapes and cozy village homestays were absolutely breathtaking. Getting to sit with Miao elders and try their homemade fermented rice wine was such a special, unscripted cultural experience.
