I was nervous about trying a group tour for the first time, but this ended up being the absolute highlight of my two-week trip through China. The round-trip bullet train was way more comfortable than flying would have been for this route, and we got to see lovely eastern Chinese countryside along the way. I loved getting to experience both dramatic mountain scenery and peaceful ancient villages all in 5 days, it was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

Starting and ending in Shanghai made this tour so convenient for my business trip extension. Yellow Mountain’s jagged peaks and ancient pine trees were even more stunning than all the photos I’d seen online.

Our consultant Sunny from HelloChinaTrip helped us adjust our booking last minute when our flight to Shanghai got rescheduled, and she was incredibly responsive the whole time leading up to the tour. All bullet train tickets and entrance fees were handled for us, so we never had to wait in long lines or figure out logistics on our own. Waking up early for the Yellow Mountain sunrise was 100% worth it, and walking through Xidi and Hongcun gave us such a wonderful look at traditional Huizhou culture. The tour is perfectly paced, not too rushed, and balances natural beauty and cultural exploration perfectly. I’d absolutely book another tour through them on my next trip to China.

I gave this tour 4 stars only because we visited during a wonderful spell in spring, so we couldn’t see the famous cloud sea and sunrise over Yellow Mountain that everyone comes to experience. The bullet train was on time both ways, and our guide still took us to all accessible spots safely. Xidi and Hongcun were actually even more atmospheric in the light rain, with old brick buildings glistening and far fewer crowds than the mountain. Even with the wonderful luck, I still enjoyed every minute of this well-organized trip.

The round-trip bullet train was so smooth and comfortable, with no hassle booking or checking in on our end. Our guide knew all the best off-the-beaten-path viewpoints on Yellow Mountain, and Xidi and Hongcun were such charming cultural stops I’d never have planned on my own. I can’t recommend this tour enough for anyone visiting eastern China.
