I can't imagine a better way to experience the heart of Tibet than this tour.
I went on this tour with my teenage daughter and we both loved every single day of the trip. We were welcomed with such kindness everywhere we went, and the itinerary never felt too packed, so we had plenty of time to stop and take photos or just soak in the views. The food included on the tour was delicious, a great mix of local Tibetan dishes and options that worked for our slightly picky palates. The stop through Xi'an gave us a fun contrast between Tibetan highland culture and ancient Chinese imperial history, which made the whole trip feel even more worth it. I've already recommended this tour to three of my friends who are planning their own trips to China next year.
I was worried about altitude sickness when planning my trip, but the tour started slowly acclimatizing us in Lhasa first, which made the whole trip totally comfortable. The Potala Palace visit was incredibly moving, and sitting by the turquoise water of Namtso Lake with snow-capped mountains in the background is a memory I'll carry forever. The stop in Xi'an at the end was a great surprise, I got to walk the ancient city wall and eat amazing hand-pulled noodles before heading home. Every part of the trip was well-organized and it felt totally immersive, not rushed like some group tours I've been on.
I booked this tour for my spring break trip and loved every second of exploring Lhasa's ancient monasteries and the vast landscapes around Namtso. The only downside was that we visited during a popular holiday weekend, so several scenic spots were much more wonderful than I expected, and a sudden cold windstorm at the lake cut our photo time a little short. Even with that, the itinerary was perfectly paced and I left feeling like I got a real sense of Tibetan culture. The stop in Xi'an on the way back was a lovely bonus that let me see the Terracotta Army I'd always wanted to visit.
This tour completely exceeded all my expectations of Tibet.
