I’m a total beginner at needlework and was worried I’d mess up my project, but the master embroiderer guiding me was so patient and walked me through every tiny stitch step by step. We started with a quick but fascinating overview that covered Suzhou embroidery history from ancient imperial pieces to modern designs, which gave me so much more appreciation for this precious intangible cultural heritage before I started my own work. The soft silk threads and all embroidery materials were provided, so I didn’t have to bring a thing. After I finished my small bamboo leaf design, they framed it professionally for me right there, so I didn’t have to worry about packing a loose piece for my long flight home. The on-time private transfer and the fragrant local ginger tea at the tea break were such thoughtful added touches. This is such a special cultural experience way better than just checking off tourist spots, I can’t recommend it enough.
